Friday Night Lights Return: High School Football Season Kicks Off in San Angelo and Surrounding Towns

The wait is nearly over - high school football is back in San Angelo and the surrounding West Texas communities. As August rolls in, teams are gearing up for another season of Friday night lights, packed stadiums, and hometown pride.

San Angelo Central Bobcats are entering the season with a mix of returning talent and fresh faces, looking to make a strong run in a competitive district. Their cross-town neighbors, the Lake View Chiefs, are also looking to build momentum early with a promising roster and renewed energy under the lights at San Angelo Stadium.

But it’s not just the city teams making noise. In surrounding towns like Christoval, Wall, Miles, Eldorado, and Ballinger, the excitement is just as electric. These smaller communities rally behind their teams with unmatched passion - where game nights feel more like a town-wide celebration than just a sporting event.

From preseason scrimmages to rival matchups that pack the stands, football season in the Concho Valley is more than just a game — it’s a tradition. Whether you're a longtime fan, a proud parent, or a student ready to lead the student section, there's nothing quite like high school football under the West Texas sky.

MARKET REPORT & INTEREST RATES

Last week the Fed did not move rates but other economic indicators came out on Friday that have brought mortgage rates down to 2025 lows. It is now widely expected that we will see a Fed cut in overnight rates at their September meeting. The mortgage markets are already working which should help get anxious buyers off the sidelines. July sales totals finished out strong and values are stable. We have seen about 50 fewer sales and 15M more volume closed throughout our entire 11 county MLS.
